Scaffolding on the front of St. Augustine’s church
Limerick July 20th 2011 - Scaffolding on the front of St. Augustine’s church, Limerick dominates O’Connell St. at present. The work of cleaning and treating the stonework of the facade is well under way. It is receiving its first full facial treatment since the official opening of the church on the 20th December 1942. Pristine greys and whites are beginning to emerge from behind layers of street pollution which have accumulated throughout these 69 years.
Historical Note: St. Augustine's Church Limerick
The original plan for the front of the church included twin towers on either side of the main entrances. The one on the left side was never erected due to legal difficulties about the acquisition of property on the site.

A Thought...
With the present focus on scaffolding, towers and lofty heights at our church our minds are directed towards the Scriptural Tower of Babel and the high-rise apartments of the Celtic Tiger era..... people losing contact with each other...... houses built on sand...... illusions of divinity....... the moral scaffolding that is needed to sustain our lives....... the spiritual reality of church as God’s people...... that we are the living temples of God’s Spirit.
