Augustinian History and the Adare link

Limerick August 22nd 2011 - National Heritage Week concludes on this Sunday 21st August. We note the fact that Norma Prendiville in last weekend’s Limerick Leader (20/8/2011) drew attention to the former Augustinian Abbey in Adare Co. Limerick.

She reported the fact that the new Church of Ireland Rector of the Abbey Rev. Gary Paulsen has been highlighting it as “a place of great interest and spirituality, a place of great history and great beauty and a reminder of our cultural and spiritual heritage”. The church and its parishioners have already begun preparations for the 700th anniversary of the church’s foundation in 1315 with plans for a major restoration.

It is located on the right just over the bridge as you enter Adare village coming from Limerick. It is well worth a visit!
