Brief History
The
Augustinians have been serving the people of Limerick
and surrounding area for almost 700 years. Their first foundation was in
ADARE, CO. LIMERICK which is now a centre of worship and education for the Church of Ireland Community.
In 1633 the Augustinians moved into Limerick city and established monasteries, a hospital
and public churches in FISH LANE AND QUAY LANE ( off George's
Quay).
They moved to their present location on O'Connell St.
in1823. For more than 100 years, a converted theatre served as a church on
this location until the present one was opened and blessed on 20th December
1942.
